Dr. Lyons is a native New Orleanian who graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. He was elected to Phi Beta Kappa in 1984 and was a cum laude graduate. He continued his education and went on to graduate with his M.B.A. from A. B. Freeman School of Business, Tulane University, and graduated from Tulane University School of Medicine with his M.D. in 1993 while being a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Lyons completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at Tulane in 1998. In 1995, Dr. Lyons received the William F. Sherman Award for outstanding first-year resident. He completed a fellowship in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopic Surgery at Mississippi Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Center in Jackson, Mississippi.
His practice focuses on arthroscopic treatment of shoulder and knee conditions including rotator cuff disorders, shoulder instability, and knee meniscus and ACL tears. Dr. Lyons has served as Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Tulane since 1999. He has been in practice in the New Orleans area for more than fifteen years. He is a fellowship trained and board certified orthopedic surgeon.
