Dr. Murphy is the founding member of the Orthopedic Center for Sports Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery and currently serves as the Director of Orthopedic Center for Sports Medicine. He graduated from LSU School of Medicine in 1982, completed an Orthopedic Surgery Residency at LSU and a Fellowship at Technical University in Munich, West Germany. Dr. Murphy is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and the Arthroscopy Board of North America and is highly trained in the evaluation and treatment of musculoskeletal problems.
Dr. Murphy has a special interest in both non-surgical rehabilitation as well as arthroscopic management of knee and shoulder conditions. Dr. Murphy has promoted the team approach in the treatment of musculoskeletal care. He has coordinated a team of orthopedic surgeons, physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians and physical therapists to work in a team approach for the benefit of the patient and athlete.
Dr. Murphy has been honored with multiple awards including LSU Medical Center Chancellor’s Award, Distinguished Service Award from the Orthopedic Surgery Department at LSU and was selected as one of New Orleans Top Doctors by New Orleans Magazine. He is past President of the Greater New Orleans Orthopedic Society and past President of Kenner Regional Medical Center.
He currently serves as a Board Member of the Louisiana Orthopedic Association and the Board of Councilors of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. Dr. Murphy has always had a keen interest in sports and has previously served as Team Physician for the New Orleans Zephyrs baseball team as well as an Independent Consultant to numerous professional athletes throughout his career.
